EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)- After more than six months and a nationwide search the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library welcomed a new CEO and Director.
Scott Kinney joined the ranks in January. He says the big thing for him right now is to focus on getting to know the staff and listening to their concerns on programing.
Kinney comes back to the midwest after spending some time in Alabama. At a welcome reception, Friday Kinney said he was drawn to the library because it was already successful. The goal is to listen to the community and start activities that they would like to see. He says right now it’s too early to determine if they’re any improvements he plans to make but he wants to make sure everything they do holds up to what the library has already established.
“Hopefully everything that we’re doing is just bringing us up a notch but when you’re a strong library system already that’s difficult to do so hopefully a lot of what we’re going to do is hopefully maintain what we’re already doing and hopefully adding what’s missing,” Scott Kinney says.
He says the first year in a new position is often spent getting to know the staff and brainstorming.
Kinney says he’s getting comfortable in the tristate and settling in well.
The former director was in the position for around 4 years and has since moved on to a new position in Washington D.C.
