EVANSVILLE, In. (WEHT) — The EVSC Foundation honored Governor Robert D. Orr, just in time for the start of the school year.
The foundation officially dedicated the Robert D. Orr Learning Commons at McCutchanville Elementary on Saturday with a ceremony.
He was the 45th Governor of Indiana and pushed for improvements in public education.
“My favorite story is that when he died, the cartoonist Indianapolis Star had a picture of a grave site, and it was obviously a burial,” said Orr’s son Robert Orr Jr. “On the one side was a donkey and then on the other side was an elephant. That sort of summed up my father, that he got along with everyone.”
He went on to say the ceremony made him very proud of his dad.
