EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Work force development is coming to Evansville middle schools.
The EVSC opt-in program launched at Thompkins Middle School.
Students can earn the mayor’s work ethic certificate.
The program aims to inspire students to develop positive traits that transfer to successful careers.
Students need to maintain good grades and do community service.
Program leaders believe it motivates and builds integrity.
“In the 8th grade we’re saying, OK, you know what, it’s really important to develop these now, because if you develop those as an 8th grader, when you get to Central High School or Bosse or Harrison or wherever you go, you’re even better prepare for that level of life.”
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says many students may not think of developing strong life skills at a young age.
The program is in six middle schools.
