EWSU: Don’t put fats, oils, and grease down the drain this holiday season

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – As families gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and the holiday season with traditional meals, the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility is reminding residents not to put FOG – fats, oils, and grease – down the drain. Those things can clog the drain.

EWSU is launching a public service campaign to raise awareness about the importance of keeping FOG from damaging pipes in homes and the city’s sewer system.

Some may not know that fat, oil and grease that goes down the drain ends up in the sewer line. As it collects, it can form clogs that can damage pipes and cause sewage to back up in homes, eventually reaching streams and wetlands.

The water department’s FOG billboards and video public service announcements are encouraging everyone to “Cool it. Can it. Throw it away. Put FOG in the trash, not in the sink.”

There are 15 billboards with the FOG holiday message throughout high traffic areas across the city.
