FDA approves new cholesterol medication

Local News

(WEHT)- For the millions of people who can’t take or don’t respond well to statins, the FDA has approved a new oral medication to treat high cholesterol.

Esperion, creator of the new drug Nexletol, says it is the first oral, non-statin cholesterol medication approved in nearly two decades.

In studies, the drug reduced cholesterol in patients by 18 percent when used with moderate or high-intensity statins. Nexletol could be available as soon as late March.
