Fireworks, NCAA on Evansville City Council Agenda

Local News
City of Evansville Seal

It will be a full night for the Evansville City Council. There’s a lot on the agenda, including the use of fireworks.

Council members will discuss a resolution asking the Indiana state legislature to give individual cities and counties the power to set their own dates when it comes to setting off fireworks.

As it stands now, state law won’t allow communities to limit the use of fireworks in the days leading up to July 4 and around New Year’s.

City Hospital Authority Board

A resolution to dissolve the city’s hospital authority board is also on the agenda.

According to our media partner, the Evansville Courier & Press, the board hasn’t met since 1996 and there have been no appointments to the board in that time period.

The paper reports the board was formed in 1981 and that dissolving it will boost the city’s revenue budget.

NCAA

Evansville could get into the NCAA Division 1 mix soon.

Council members will discuss a resolution supporting Evansville as a host for the 2019 “First Four” men’s basketball games.

These are also known as the play-in games during the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
