First month of cannabis sales in Illinois in the books


Illinois (WEHT) Recreational marijuana has been legal in the state of Illinois for a month now, and government officials are now releasing information about how the first month of sales went.

According to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, cannabis sales for the month of January totaled $39,247,840. Dispensaries sold more than 972,000 items in 31 days.

Illinois residents made up most of the customers; they spent $30,611,632 in cannabis sales. Out-of-state residents spent $8,636,208.

Last month, Illinois became the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana.
