(WEHT)- Experts are warning that a second wave of the flu is hitting the United States. There have been at least 26 million flu cases, 250,000 hospitalizations, and 14,000 deaths so far this flu season.
Officials say this flu season has been especially tough on children. Flu-related deaths and hospitalizations for children are at their highest peak in a decade. This uptick in cases comes after data showed a drop in cases for the first two weeks of 2020.
Experts say the danger this flu season comes from two prevalent strains of the influenza virus that impact different populations. Influenza B, which is especially tough on children and young adults and Influenza A which tends to affect children and the elderly.
