Former Teacher Accused of Voyeurism Due in Court

Eyewitness News has learned Ryan Belmonte’s trial date has been set for October 11.

On Thursday, a former Evansville art teacher is due in court for a status conference surrounding felony voyeurism charges.

Ryan Belmonte, 26, was arrested at Holy Rosary School on December 1. Investigators say a student Belmonte was tutoring earlier that week discovered a phone in the bathroom. 

Belmonte allegedly admitted to secretly video taping two elementary school students while they used the restroom.

Belmonte was a teacher at Holy Rosary for three years. He posted $1,500 bond after a court hearing on December 2.

Police say Belmonte told the student to use the faculty bathroom on the afternoon of November 30. The child reportedly his parents he found a phone hidden inside a Kleenex box that was in record mode, according to police.

Belmonte was terminated from his job at Holy Rosary on December 2.

His status conference hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

A review hearing is scheduled for January 10 at 1 p.m.
