After the latest annual inspection by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums, some Mesker Park Zoo exhibits were reported to have maintenance issues.
This included the Red Panda, Rhino and Jaguar displays.
Mesker has a year to address the issues.
Outlining actions that can be taken, Zoo Director Amos Morris says, “They can pull their animals from you, they can donate their animals to you, or they can send someone to inspect to make sure that you’re taking good care of your animals.”
Monday night, the city budget was approved that will give Mesker the funds it needs to begin repairs on some of the exhibits.
Morris feels all the concerns can be addressed by May, 2017, when the next inspection is due to happen, and that all the animals will be allowed to remain at the zoo.
