Gallup: library visits outnumber movie visits

Local News

(WEHT)- A Gallup Poll conducted in December revealed that, on average, people visited the library more often than they went to sporting events, museums, and movie theaters.

Madeline Rodenberg, a frequent visitor at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, says hanging out at the library is more convenient than going to the movie theatre “you go to a movie theater and it’s an hour, two hours usually at the most,” Rodenberg says, “but even then you’re barely talking to each other.”

Heather McKinney, an employee at the library says the library offers a variety of free services that make it popular in the community, including movie screenings and resume help, in addition to book, CD, and movie rentals.

According to the same Gallup poll, trips to the movie theatre have fallen by over one visit since a similar poll was conducted in 2001.
