OHIO COUNTY, Ky- (WEHT)- Help is arriving for miners affected by recent layoff announcements at western Kentucky mines.
Two informational sessions happened Wednesday in Central City for miners at Genesis Mine in Ohio County.
Gradd officials and others told them about job search help and opportunities near the mine.
A WARN notice issued two months ago said the mine was scheduled to close as early as this past Monday but some miners say they’re still working there on a day-to-day basis.
Paul Stalker, a Genesis coal miner said, “with them helping me find you a job… you know I’m new to the area so I don’t know what companies are here or around. So surely they will point me in the right direction.”
The miners also received information on health insurance and other unemployment benefits.
