Gibson County Council tables proposed tax for jail expansion

Local News

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (WEHT) – There’s still no decision on the future of the Gibson County Jail.

The Gibson County Council was scheduled to vote on a proposed 2% local option income tax to help fund an expansion of the jail.

However, council members decided to table a vote until next month.

Members said they still have questions about the project and exactly how much it will cost.

Estimates put the price tag on the renovation project at $30 million.

The council is up against an October 31 deadline to approve the tax if it wants to collect it in 2020.
