‘Go Red for Women’ luncheon raises awareness about heart disease

Local News

There was a sea of red at the Old National Events Plaza as people celebrated the Go Red for Women luncheon.

Nearly everyone showed up wearing red.

A highlight of the fundraiser – the Pursonalities Auction. Purses, some very high-end like Kate Spade and Louis Vuitton, went to the highest bidder.

The event also raised awareness of heart disease and encouraged women to take charge of their health.

One in three women will experience it in their lifetime, and heart disease is the number one killer of women.

“Major risk factors for heart disease are high blood pressure and high cholesterol, smoking, being overweight, lack of exercise. Those are ones we hear a lot. Keep those under control and lead a healthy lifestyle.”

Proceeds from the Go Red for Women luncheon go toward clinical research and programs promoting healthy eating and lifestyles.
