“Gotcha Day” for Several Tri-State Families

Local News

The Seaman family of Evansville has been waiting 2,166 days to make it official. Thursday was their “Gotcha Day.”

November is National Adoption month, and in Vanderburgh County, several families celebrated what’s called their “Gotcha Day.”
That’s the date all the legal work comes to an end and they officially become family – on paper, at least.

For the Seaman’s, their journey has taken twice as long as the average adoption case.
But for little Jessica, Jacob, and Abby, there will be even more for them to be thankful for this holiday.

“When we told them what day it was, everyday they kept counting down,” said mother, Tammy Seaman, “Jessie got in the car yesterday and said, “Mom, I told everybody I saw,” and I thought, they probably have no idea what that really means because they don’t understand how long she’s been waiting for this.”

Ten families in Vanderburgh County were involved in Thursday’s ceremonies; but families who successfully adopted throughout the entire year were there for the following reception.
