Gov. Pritzker signs immigration legislation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEHT) — Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker put his signature on three pieces of legislation Friday aimed at protecting Illinois’ immigrant community.

Gov. Pritzker said Illinois will stand as a firewall against President Donald Trump’s immigrant policies.

The first bill bans immigrant detention centers in the State of Illinois.

The next bill prevents law enforcement from tearing apart families and removing undocumented residents.

Lastly, undocumented and transgender students will be able to receive map grants and financial aid at public institutions.

Pritzker said Illinois will stand as a firewall against President Trump’s immigration policies.
