GRDHD: At least 54 COVID-19 cases connected to Tyson plant, 17 to Perdue plant

Local News

Ky. (WEHT) — The Green River District Health Department tells Eyewitness News they have confirmed COVID-19 cases at two meat processing facilities in Kentucky.

GRDHD says there are at least 54 confirmed cases associated with Tyson employees at its Robards plant.

Clay Horton, GRDHD Public Health Director, says that number does not include employees living outside their jurisdiction or cases that haven’t been confirmed yet.

Horton has Tyson has cooperated fully with their investigation and the health department is working to identify every case and close contact. The individuals are being isolated and quarantined, according to Horton.

Horton says at Perdue’s meat packing facility in Ohio County, there are at least 17 confirmed cases in the Green River District. He says the department knows there are “a number of confirmed cases outside our jurisdiction as well” but specific data is not available at this time. Horton says similar clusters have occurred in multiple meat processing facilities across the country.
