EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Holiday Inn on Highway 41 near the Evansville Regional Airport closed on Friday and cleared all guests from the hotel.
A hotel spokesperson tells Eyewitness News that Omninet Capital based in Los Angeles made the decision to close the hotel. Holiday Inn has paid for new rooms for all of the guests at different locations. A regional manager would not say how many people were staying at the hotel at the time.
We’re told employees will be compensated at the hotel for 30 days.
We spoke with the manager at the Hampton Inn nearby and they said they have more than a dozen guests who were displaced from the Holiday Inn and said they were understandably frustrated.
Eyewitness News was not permitted on Hampton Inn’s property to speak with guests because the manager did not want to cause them any more stress after a tough situation.
It’s unclear at this time exactly why the decision to close this way was made.
Eyewitness News also spoke on the phone with the new executive director of the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau. Jim Wood tells us the bureau had no warning of the Holiday Inn closing and he called it a disappointment.
