Health Minute: Summer travel safety

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (CNN) — The first day of summer is officially here and many are ready to embark on their next summer vacation.

But before you head out there are a few items every traveler should bring with them.

Get your travel health kit started with the basics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Other helpful items include antacids, laxatives, hand sanitizers, antibiotic creams and bandages.

Just make sure you pack enough.

“Contact your doctor so that they can prescribe you extra medicine or if you have refills left you can ask your pharmacist to dispense enough medicine to cover your entire vacation.”

And plan ahead for any bumps in the road.

“Of course, we all know how travel is, now it can be kind of iffy. So, make sure you cover for an extra couple of days in case there are delays.”

The kit should also include copies of all prescriptions and a note from your doctor covering injectables or controlled substances.
