HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Unmaintained and abandoned properties in Henderson have become a problem in recent years.
The city has initiated a plan to clean up and remove those properties by holding a mass foreclosure auction.
The first auction took place on Wednesday.
Five out of 20 properties went up for sale at the Henderson County Judicial Center.
The properties involve code enforcement liens and vacant lots ready for redevelopment.
The goal for mass foreclosure is to recoup some of the expenses generated by maintaining these properties and to spur redevelopment, which will get them back on the tax rolls.
This is the second time in more than three years that the city has pursued a mass foreclosure auction to recover back taxes and code enforcement liens.
