CORYDON, Ky. (WEHT) – A local fire department team received an important safety donation.
The Corydon Civil Defense Fire and Rescue got a grain rescue tube and auger from Corteva Agri-Science.
The tools can be used to rescue someone trapped in a grain bin.
The grain tube is made of six panels that slide into place around the victim.
The tube stops the flow of grain and relieves the pressure on the person trapped.
The assistant chief tells us they have not had to do this type rescue in Henderson.
“We don’t have to go very far from here and it’s happened. Some have been some happy stories, and there has been some tragic, where the rescues have turned into recoveries. So, we’re hoping with the addition of this equipment in Henderson, with the cooperation of the City of Henderson and Henderson County that we’ll be prepared in case that happens. And hopefully it never will.”
Corteva is donating 21 grain rescue tubes to fire departments nationwide.
