EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Home Team Friday Pep Rally’s are not only about fun, games, and school spirit but it’s also about helping others in need.
During the pep rallies, socks are donated by the students and faculty and will be turned into Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Hanger program.
Hangers is a clothing resource committed to serving EVSC students in need by providing them every-day living essentials that would otherwise be unaffordable.
They provide clothing, school supplies, and hygiene products.
Thanks to the huge amount of socks donated during each of the Home Team Friday Pep Rally’s, Hangers will have 2,500 pairs of socks to give away to students in need to keep the feet warm as the weather gets cold.
The schools who have donated socks this year:
- Hancock County
- Hopkins County Central
- Gibson Southern
- Mater Dei
- South Spencer
Other sock collecting programs are put into place to keep the feet of the homeless nice and warm during the cold months.
It turns out that socks are the number one item requested by those who are homeless and out on the street.
Santa’s Clothes Club in Evansville is another organization that accepts socks and other clothing donations for kids in need around the Tri-State.
Bombas, a company that sells socks and other clothing items, donates one pair of socks for every pair sold to the homeless and has donated over 26,000,000 pairs of socks to homeless shelters.
