Update: One person injured, dog dies in Vanderburgh Co. house fire

Update 5:11 p.m.

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – One person is injured and a dog has died following a house fire in Vanderburgh County.

The call came in around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Bartels Rd., near Darmstadt Rd.

Firefighters responded to a call regarding a window fire.

When fire crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the home.

There’s heavy damage to the kitchen and smoke and water damage to the basement.

Authorities say one man has second degree burns on his hands and feet because he went back inside the home while the fire was going to get the dog out. Unfortunately, the dog died. Two other people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but made it out without any reported injuries.

The cause is still under investigation.

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A homeowner has escaped a house fire in Vanderburgh County.

It happened at a home on Bartels Road, off of Darmstadt Rd.

The call came in just before 3:30 p.m.

One person was inside the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to get out and call 911.

Smoke is still coming from the roof of the house.

There are no reported injuries. And it’s too early to determined the cause of the fire.
