Honor Flight prepares for takeoff

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Eighty-five veterans are preparing for the trip of a lifetime and Eyewitness News will be there for their big flight. The veterans will be taking part in the Honor Flight, a free trip to Washington D.C. for U.S. War Veterans so they can visit the memorials built in their honor.

Before the next Honor Flight of Southern Indiana takes off, the veterans met with volunteers for an in-person interview. Veterans were asked about their needs and medical information so the trip to Washington, D.C. is as comfortable as possible.

Now, the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is asking for the public’s help. On Tuesday, Aug. 27 the organization is hosting an auction to help fund future honor flights at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, located at 6000 Old Boonville Highway. Additionally, they will be collecting letters from the public thanking the veterans for their service. To find out more about the organization and where to send your letters to the veterans, watch our full interview with the Vice President of Southern Indiana Honor Flight below.
