EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — More than 80 tri-state veterans and their guardians will soon board a flight for the nation’s capitol.
The 11th Honor Flight of Southern Indiana takes off early Saturday morning.
Thursday night, veterans enjoyed a meet-and-greet before their trip.
Over the years, hundreds of WWII and Korean veterans from the tri-state have taken the unique flight.
The goal is simple – to honor the heroes who sacrificed for their country.
The soldiers and sailors will see their war memorials in Washington D.C., and some are anticipating an emotional reunion.
Some of the veterans say they aren’t sure what to expect, but, they know it’s a tremendous, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The veterans are expected to return to Evansville around 9:00 Saturday night.
