The Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) is partnering with Owensboro Health to kick off Colon Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a special event on Thursday.

KCP will present the ‘Incredible Colon’ exhibit on the campus of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

Visitors can walk through a large-scale model of the colon and learn about prevention, screening and treatment of colon cancer.

KCP is also encouraging the public to dress in blue on Friday, March 1 as part of the annual nationwide campaign to promote colon cancer screening.

Community partners and KCP District Cancer Councils are sponsoring special activities on March 1 and throughout the month.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women combined in the nation and the state.

The mortality rate in Kentucky is among the highest, claiming the lives of more than 800 people each year.

The campus of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital is located at 1201 Pleasant Valley Road in the Medical Office Building lobby near the Auditorium.
