HPD: Man faces murder charge in connection with Henderson shooting

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An 18-year-old now faces a charge of murder following a shooting outside of Thomason Banquet Hall.

Police said witnesses identified Japaris Baker as the person who shot Jai’Waun Wadlington in the back of the head.

According to police, an argument broke out between people from Henderson and people from Evansville.

Witnesses said Baker fire several rounds from the intersection of Loeb Street in the direction of where the majority of people were standing, police said.

Three subjects were hit: 18-year-old Travon Garrett of Evansville, 18-year-old Johnel Henderson of Evansville, and 18-year-old Jai’Waun Wadlington of Evansville.

Garret was shot in the leg and was able to be released from the hospital after receiving care.

Henderson was also shot in the leg and transported to the hospital.

Wadlington was shot in the back of the head and died at the scene, police said.
