HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Police said a car involved in a robbery in Hopkins County fled from authorities in Henderson when officers tried to pull the vehicle over.

On July 5, police said the driver, 31-year-old Tommy Mcelveen, refused to stop for police and then took two exits before eventually pulling into the old K-Mart parking lot.

At that point, police said he got out of the vehicle and took off running with a loaded AR-15 while dropping a 40-caliber handgun.

Police said Mcelveen’s passenger was a 17-year-old juvenile who disobeyed commands to stop and led officers on a brief foot pursuit.

Mcelveen continued to flee and eventually stopped at his mother’s house on Atkinson St., according to police.

Mcelveen was taken into custody on charges of fleeing or evading police 1st degree and robbery.

The 17-year-old passenger was charged with fleeing or evading police 2nd degree and possession of a handgun by a minor.
