EVANSVILLE, Ind. – (WEHT) It’s no secret that the past two seasons for Memorial have been incredible, but this season, the Tigers have big shoes to fill after graduation.
Memorial, who is coming off back-to-back State title game appearances, loses quarterback Michael Lindauer as well as a handful of other impact players. Head Coach John Hurley says in order to fill those holes, other players will need to step up this season.
“There’s always unknown and every year I say the same thing because you’re looking to see who steps into the leadership roles. Those roles have kind of been filled for us for a few years, so these guys are getting out of their comfort zone, and it’s exciting,” said head coach John Hurley. “It seems like a lot of things have got to fall into place between now and then, but it will be exciting.”
Coach Hurley says that while nothing definitive is set yet, the guy taking the most first-string reps at quarterback so far has been former receiver Colton Pence, another guy the Tigers will need to step up this season.
“It’s a great positive feeling. The expectations for this year are just be ourselves, do what we can, but we know we have a lot of work to put in,” said senior Brock Combs.
The Tigers kick off the season against Jasper on August 23rd.
