Local

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WEHT)- The project that will bring the first runway extension with a tunnel for an airport in Indiana broke ground Friday.

Officials visiting Huntingburg airport this morning to kick off the first phase of the project.

The 7.5 million dollars project has been in the works for a decade and will extend the runway, allowing larger planes to use the airport.

The airport has received millions of dollars in grants to fund the expansion.

The upcoming changes have business owners who frequently use that airport excited for what’s to come.

Hank Menke says, “By having the extra length here we have a better chance of getting larger aircraft in versus having to go to Evansville or go to Louisville to land there, they can come here. it makes a big difference to a community like Dubois County to have this extension to be able to attract even other businesses. “

Afterward visitors were able to check out aircrafts, including Senator Mike Braun.
