Another extension granted to expand and renovate the Owensboro Sportscenter for the IceMen when the professional hockey team leaves Evansville.

Owensboro City Attorney Ed Ray tells Eyewitness News the city is giving IceMen Owner Ron Geary a two week extention to secure financing.

Ray says the bank that would finance a $5 million to $6 million loan package will decide on finalizing the loan between March 15-17, after it gets an appraisal of the Sportscenter.

Ray says the expansion would add what he calls an undetermined number of seats. Geary had indicated he hoped to expand seating from five thousand to 7,200.

Ray also says the Sportscenter would have an all new entrance on the opposite side of the building, locker room, concession and retail rennovations and the arena would meet American Disability Accessibility (ADA) standards.

One end of the Sportscenter will be demolished to make way for a longer floor plan.
