Illinois could raise the speed limit


SPRINGFIELD, Ill (WEHT)- People driving in Illinois may be able to get where they’re going a little bit faster.

A bill filed in the Illinois General Assembly would raise speed limits on the interstates. The bill calls for raising the speed limit on interstates to 75 miles per hour.

The current limit is 70 mph. The bill also calls on raising the speed limit on 2-lane highways to 60 mph. The current limit is 55 mph.

The bills have been assigned to the Senate Transportation Committee. No hearing or votes have been scheduled.
