ILLINOIS (WEHT) – A new Illinois law aims to control the rising costs of prescription drugs in the state.

Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill creating the state’s first regulatory framework for pharmacy benefit managers.

It would negotiate drug prices and benefits on behalf of insurance plans.

Pritzker says the new law will increase access to prescription drugs and reduce high costs.

The law takes effect on January 1, 2020.
