Illinois medicaid covers transgender surgeries

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEHT)-Illinois Medicaid now officially covers gender-affirming procedures.

Previously, the law said the procedures had to be made available but they were not covered by Medicaid.

New administrative rules said Medicaid will cover all gender-affirming surgeries that are medically necessary to treat a particular person’s gender dysphoria as well as all related therapies.
