Illinois officials call tax amnesty program a success

Illinois (WEHT) – Officials in Illinois say the state’s tax amnesty program worked better than expected.

From October 1st to November 15th the state promised not to prosecute people who were behind on their taxes as long as those people came forward and paid off the debt during that period.

Officials say they expected to get about $175 million from the program, but actually raked in $237 million.
