Illinois Senate Democrats convene to pick new leader

(WEHT)- The race to replace Illinois Senate President John Cullerton continues Sunday as Senate Democrats met in Springfield to pick a new leader. Cullerton announced his decision to retire in November.

Two primary candidates have emerged: Sen. Don Harmon of Oak Park and Sen. Kimberly Lightford of Maywood. Craig Wall of WLS-TV in Chicago said the first round of secret ballot went 22-17 in favor of Harmon, however, candidates need to receive 30 votes to win.
