The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association is warning of a false phone campaign currently underway in the state using the organization’s name in solicitations.

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association never solicits by phone, but it does conduct a direct mail campaign.

Phone solicitors offering a “too good to be true” opportunity or who want you to act immediately are most likely fraudulent.

If you have any doubts or are highly pressured, authorities recommend that you just hang up.

If you receive a phone call from saying they represent your local Sheriff’s Officer, gather as much information as you can from the caller and report it to the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association at ISA@ilsheriff.org.
