Indiana bill would require children to wear helmets while riding bikes

Local News

INDIANAPOLIS (WEHT) – A state that allows adults to ride motorcycles without wearing a helmet appears ready to require children riding bicycles to wear helmets.

The Indiana House Public Safety Committee voted 12-0 in favor of a bill that would require anyone under 18 to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle, skateboard, rollerblades, or a non-motorized scooter on public property.

Children caught without a helmet could face a $25 fine.

The bill goes to the full Indiana House for its next vote.
