Families with children in Indiana’s public schools could soon have help purchasing classroom necessities.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz is asking for a $1,000 tax deduction in the new state budget.

This deduction would help families offset the cost of textbooks.

Families with students in private schools already receive this deduction.

The tax break could save families more than $60 million.
