PETERSBURG, Ind. (WEHT)- Two southern Indiana coal plants are being retired, according to an announcement from Indianapolis Power & Light. The plants, located in Petersburg, will be officially shut down in 2023, though two other plants in the area will remain open past then.
The plants have drawn criticism from environmentalists, who say the plants are “super polluters” and responsible for several health issues in the region.
