Indy Zoo’s new dolphin calf named Maui after Facebook vote

Local News

INDIANAPOLIS (WEHT) – The Indianapolis Zoo announced on Thursday that the name Maui was chosen for a dolphin calf at the zoo.

On August 27, the zoo’s 18-year-old dolphin Kalei gave birth to her second calf.

The public named the dolphin in a Facebook poll.

The choices were between August, Leo, and Maui.

Maui is a reference to a demigod from Polynesian mythology, made popular by the 2016 Disney Pixar film “Moana.”
