HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) – A Hopkins County man has been charged with child abuse.

On Sunday, deputies responded to Baptist Health after reports of an eight-week-old child being treated for injuries.

Authorities say their investigation led to the arrest of the child’s father, Herbert Harris. He has been charged with assault.

Given the severity of the injuries, the baby was transferred to the University of Louisville.

Harris is being held in the Hopkins County Detention Center.

According to court documents, the child had two brain bleeds, broken ribs, damaged vertebrae, and a healing broken clavicle.

Following his arrest, authorities said he admitted to watching the child at the time of the injury.

According to court documents, he allegedly admitted to picking up too rough with supporting its head and dropped the baby on the couch.
