International powerlifting competition coming to Henderson this weekend

HENDERSON, KY – Athletes from around the globe will be in Henderson to compete in the International Single Event World Powerlifting Championship.

The event, hosted by the American Drug Free Powerlifting Federation, will be held at the John F. Kennedy Community Center.

The center has hosted state level powerlifting competitions, but this is the first time for hosting an international competition.

Male and female competitors who signed up for the event are from Great Britain, France, Italy, and Russia, in addition to the United States.

This event includes a master’s division for competitors older than 40.

One of the competitors who signed up for the bench press event is 82 years old.

Lifting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Admission for the event are $5 per day or $10 for a pass for the whole meet.
