Local News

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ill. (WEHT) – Illinois State Police says a woman in Hamilton County was flown to the hospital after a traffic accident and alcohol was involved.

Police say Jesse M. Saunders, 31, was driving a pick-up truck and drove into the path of the truck tractor, semi-trailer combination on Illinois Route 14.

Police say the front of the truck tractor struck the driver’s side of Saunders’ pickup.

We’re told the pickup truck then traveled across Illinois Route 14 and struck 69-year-old Phyllis Sue Bowers of McLeansboro, who was a pedestrian standing on the shoulder.

Saunders was transported to an area hospital by ambulance and later flown to a regional hospital for further treatment.

Bowers sustained minor injuries.

Saunders was cited for Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign Intersection and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
