Update

MT. VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) – Tuesday afternoon, an Indiana State Trooper was patrolling SR 69 north of Mt. Vernon when he clocked a vehicle going 83 mph.

The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but authorities said the driver did not stop – allegedly reaching speeds over 100 mph.

ISP said at one point the trooper lost sight of the vehicle, but a drone form the Posey County Sheriff’s Department found the vehicle crashed in a cornfield.

Authorities said the vehicle was unoccupied in the cornfield, so a perimeter was set up by Mt. Vernon Police, the sheriff’s department, and ISP.

The search was called off around 9:45 p.m. after authorities said they were unable to locate the driver and the passenger.

Authorities said they found meth, scales, and plastic baggies in the vehicle.

Then, around 7 a.m. Wednesday, a person inside the Mt. Vernon Casey’s claimed the two people who fled police were inside the store.

James Jacob Nebelski, 28, and Cami L. Joiner, 30, were both arrested.

Nebelski faces the following charges:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Class 6 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor
