It Takes A Village to open shelter in Spencer County

Local News

SPENCER COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A new animal shelter is opening in Spencer County nine months after allegations it inhumanely killed cats.

It Takes A Village from Evansville is opening the shelter.

It’s one of the largest animal rescues in the region.

The Spencer County shelter closed last fall after an investigation into its former director. She allegedly told employees to freeze cats alive as a way to euthanize them.

It Takes A Village is a no-kill shelter and is opening independent of the former staff.

ITV will use the former animal shelter facility.

Plans are underway to open before this fall.
