GIBSON CO., Ind (WEHT) Jacob Wilson has been found guilty in the 2018 murder of Sam Bethe. According to police, Bethe was shot and his home in Buckskin was set on fire.
Wilson and Ashley Robling were on the run for days after the murder before police found them near the Illinois-Missouri state line. Robling pleaded guilty to her role in Bethe’s death last year and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Robling’s mother, Bessie Taylor, says her daughter is doing well but was irritated that she did not have a chance to testify in the case. Gibson County Prosecutor Michael Cochren says that he made a strategic call not to call Robling to the stand.
The jury took about an hour to deliberate its verdict, perhaps bringing an end to a saga that began over three years and one mistrial ago. Cochren says he’s surprised anytime a jury delivers its verdict so quick, but adds it’s a ‘commentary’ that the state had overwhelming evidence to convict Wilson. Wilson will be sentenced June 8th.
