EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT)- The JROTC program in the EVSC received their awards in a different fashion Wednesday.
The team won state this year for the first time. At the onset of the pandemic, the team was scheduled to go to nationals in Washington D.C. That trip was canceled.
Students picked up their awards Wednesday at the Harrison High School parking lot.
“For them to qualify for the first time ever, for them to win state, for them to qualify for the first time ever for them to go to nationals in Washington D.C. For it be given this was is a little bit of a slap in the face for what they deserve and what they should have gotten,” Charles Benintende says.
He says their achievements over the last year pushed the students to try and win at state again next year.
