HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – It’s natural to want to get out in the sun during warm summer days, but you need to protect your skin from the sun when you go outside.

QuoteWizard.com compiled melanoma cases for Kentucky from the CDC and found the state has the seventh highest rate of skin cancer in the country.

You and your family can take these steps to stay safe in the sun:

  • Cover up.
  • Wear clothing and a hat to protect as much skin as possible.
  • Protect your eyes with sunglasses.
  • Apply an appropriate amount of sunscreen and seek shade when UV rays are strongest.
  • Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps.
