LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The mayor of Somerset is accused of leaving an accident that left a juvenile injured.

Kentucky State Police say troopers were called to a report of a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian on South Maple Street in Somerset on Sunday around 7:30 p.m.

State Police say a juvenile riding a bicycle was hit by a vehicle that left the scene.

The juvenile was taken by private vehicle to Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, according to police.

The child’s condition is not known at this time.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle was later identified as Eddie Girdler.

Girdler serves as the mayor of Somerset.

State Police say Girdler was cited in Pulaski District Court for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid or assistance.
